The Medford Boat Club was formed in 1898, and is one of the earliest yacht and sailing clubs in America.
Here are some early photographs:
This photograph shows in the foreground a large boathouse that disappeared many years ago – the remains of the pilings can be seen in the water between the dam and the Tufts Boat House.
The original Medford Boat Club building is at the other end of the dam and has a small pontoon in front.
The original club house with a pontoon on the Upper Mystic Lake side – complete with a couple of sailing boats.
A view of the dam from further up the Upper Mystic Lake from what is now Mystic Valley Parkway. You can see the large boathouse on the left which has now disappeared, and the Medford Boat Club in the far top right hand corner.
